Uoobag KT-01 Slim Laptop Backpack

Uoobag KT-01 Slim Laptop Backpack

This is a a good-sized laptop bag with spaces for you to bring your gear places.

The manufacturers of Uoobag decided to go with nylon to make it water-resistant to keep your gear safe in the event of a downpour. 201D nylon is pretty tough, so the weight of your gear will be well-supported and not tear through it.

One key feature is that it proudly markets itself as anti-theft with its separated compartment for your laptop. What this means is that the compartment sits in the cushion of the backpack and relatively hard to snatch.

It is pretty standard these days to have dedicated pockets for all your gear and accessories, and the Uoobag does not disappoint in this aspect for your cables, powerbanks, notebooks and pens. There are also two small elastic compartments - one at each side of the bag for your umbrella and water bottle.

The Uoobag is also well designed and have ample paddings at the shoulder and back areas to enhance your carrying comfort.

What We Like

  • Waterproof
  • Plenty of dedicated pockets for accessories
  • Well-padded for carrying comfort

What We Don't Like

  • Unable to fit a thick 15.6 inches gaming laptop
  • The waterproofing is not absolute and should be labelled water-resistant instead

Targus has designed this large and heavy-duty backpack for some of you techies who lug around plenty of gear in your bags.

For starters, this bag has been designed to fit 16" laptops in its large padded compartments. It also has various compartments for different purposes, such as one for your tablets, digital cameras, cables and even one for books and documents. Most of these compartments are zippered so you do not have to worry about stuff falling out of place.

Targus has designed this smart little media pocket at the top of the bag for your media player. The built-in cord allows you to connect to your device inside. All you have to do is to plug in your earbuds into the earphone jack from the outside and totally forget about messy cords!

The back of the Targus is equipped with a heavily-cushioned back panel with a mesh fabric which allows for ventilation. The two adjustable shoulder straps provide extra comfort and good ergonomic support, so carrying it for extended periods should be a breeze.

And did we mention that the Legend IQ backpack comes with the Targus Limited Lifetime Warranty?

Kopack Laptop Backpack

Kopack Laptop Backpack Slim Computer Travel Bag

This good-looker from Kopack is no pushover. Beneath its simplistic looks lies plenty of everyday functionality.

It has been designed to fit most medium-sized laptops up to 15.6 inches into its adjustable laptop slot at the back. Right in front of the laptop slot in the main compartment sits the tablet slot. We love the fact that the main compartment is spacious enough to pack in some clothes if you are going away for a day or two.

In the front compartment, there are various slots for your phone, wallet, cords and pen.

The zippers on the main compartment are touted to be anti-theft as they can be locked into place. There is also a hidden waist pocket on the back panel of the bag which you can slot in your valuables for a while when you're on the go.

What We Like

  • Good water resistance
  • Hidden waist pocket to slot your personal items on the go
  • Ergonomic S-Shaped padded straps fit well

What We Don't Like

  • Not as stretchable, little room for expansion
  • More padding for added protection for hidden compartment will be ideal

Evecase Laptop Backpack

Evecase Laptop Backpack

I personally like the aesthetics of this bag from Evecase. The key selling point of this bag is its ability to be both a backpack and a briefcase, depending on which way you will be carrying it. The shoulder straps can be hidden away neatly in a small zippered compartment if you wish to use it as a briefcase.

Don't be fooled by its slim profile - it can pack in big laptops of up to 17.3 inches with ease. Together with its many other pockets for your tablet, cables and other accessories, the Evecase can pack in an impressive amount of working gear for people on the go. It can also make a good choice for an ergonomic backpack for school.

There is also a headphone grommet for you to connect your media player to your earphones from the top.

What We Like

  • Versatile design
  • Mesh shoulder paddings makes it comfortable to carry
  • Inexpensive

What We Don't Like

  • Quality of the zippers and stitching could be better
  • Does not have the premium feel

High Sierra Swerve Backpack (Editor's Choice)

High Sierra Swerve Backpack

If you can only have one backpack at home, we reckon that the High Sierra Swerve should be the one. It is one of the most ergonomic backpack on the market.

It's large size makes it perfect not only for your computer gear, it is also perfect for a weekend getaway with ample room for quite a bit of stuff.

Given its size, it has no problems fitting it a 17 inch laptop into its fully padded cushion zone which protects it very well. The tablet slot sits just right in front of the laptop.

Packing stuff into the 3 main compartments is easy with the genereous amount of open space once it is unzipped. The frontal compartment deserves special mention for its neatly designed slots for pens, notebooks, wallets, keys, phones and cords. It is extremely easy to find your things when it is that well-organized.

The Swerve is well-designed to carry heavier loads with it Suspension strap system. According to High Sierra, it works by dampening the shock of weight transfer while transporting your gear and provides relief even while carrying heavier loads.

The mesh material and the deep air channels in the back panels allows for maximum ventilation between the pack and your back.

What We Like

  • Cleverly-designed mesh pocket on shoulder strap for quick access items (phone, MP3 player)
  • Very comfortable to carry even for heavier loads
  • Heavy-duty and sturdy built with good padding for additional protection of your gear
  • Many colors and designs to choose from

What We Don't Like

  • Too big and heavy to carry around if you're not maximizing the space
  • Zippers tend to get caught in fabric

How to Select the Best Ergonomic Backpack for Laptops?

As we have mentioned earlier, the choice of backpacks can be really subjective to each individual. We have to weigh not only on the aesthetics of the backpack, we also have to consider the practical aspects such as the size of laptops, ease of organizing and durability. Let's examine a few of these considerations.

Size

It really boils down to the size of your laptops. It may sound like a good idea to buy something that is bigger to cater for any changes in the future, a loose fitting laptop may mean that it is not as well-protected as it should be.

You would also have to consider if you are carrying any additional stuff other than your computer gear. If you need to bring along a sweater or a change of clothes while you're travelling, extra space and compartments are a necessity.

Ease of Organizing

Most of the laptop backpacks have purpose-built compartments and slots to allow for easy organizing and access to your accessories. When placed in the right spots, these little pockets of convenience can make using your backpack a real pleasure.

The bare minimum that a backpack should have will be one dedicated compartment for your laptop (preferably cushioned for protection) and some pockets for your notebooks, pens and cables.

Premium backpacks can also include convenient pockets on the straps, sides and in the main compartments that cater for your tablet, keys, wallets and other accessories.

Durability

Computer gear is relatively heavy, thus the need for a durable backpack is real. The quality of the stitches and zips are as important as the quality of the material of the backpack.

Water resistance is a useful feature to have in the event of bad weather.

Cushioning on the insides of the compartment are an added feature for maximum protection of the contents in your pack.

Ergonomics

Since a backpack is carried on the shoulders, it is of utmost importance that the shoulder straps are padded to ensure that the shoulders are well-supported and not cause unnecessary strain. The padding should be able to cushion and distribute the weight of the bag evenly for comfort.

Some shoulder straps are made rigid in a S-shaped manner so that it fits better over the shoulders for better ergonomics.

Mesh and thick paddings are usually found on the back panel of the pack to allow for ventilation between the pack and your back. This will not only allow for better carrying comfort, it will also be well-supported especially at the lower back area.

Conclusion

We may always make an effort to improve our ergonomics when we are working, we should not forget that the transportation of our laptops also play a vital role. Carrying it with the wrong bags or in the wrong manner can cause avoidable strain or injury.

While the list above may not be exhaustive, these are some of our preferred choices. Which backpack do you use to carry your gear around? Let us know in the comments below!
